About Ignition Parts

The ignition's job is to deliver a spark to the combustion chamber at the exact time that it will produce the most power to drive the piston downward. The optimum time for spark delivery varies with the speed the engine is turning, so an ignition system will respond to that information. Older ignition systems use "points" to trigger a larger voltage to the spark plug. Later systems use optical or magnetic triggers to accomplish the same thing. There are many options to improve the performance of ignitions, from creating multiple sparks to hotter sparks, to more control over the timing of spark delivery in response to engine conditions.
